My Name and Username

Hello! This post exists to explain the origin of my name and username and to position myself in context to this blog.

Darcy comes from the ancient Irish name “O’Dorchaide” which meant “descendant of the dark one”; my parents found it in a name book and thought the name would be fitting for me because of my adoptive father’s Irish family background and the fact I have black hair

Darcyatwork comes from combining my name and the purpose of the blog; on the surface, the “at work” appears to be referencing paid labor, but the “at work” is general enough that it can relate to any type of “work,” paid or unpaid, that takes effort; for example, one of the definitions of work on Merriam Webster is “to perform or carry through a task requiring sustained effort or continuous repeated operations”; people sometimes say “I am working on improving myself” or “we are working together to support one another” and so the “at work” in my username and blog title can mean any kind of “work” that I am doing to better myself and support the communities and people around me
